Studbook Mare Classifications

Premium B and AB Status
Registered SWB mares and non-SWB registered mares of approved breeds that are three years old or older and that have had at least one inspected (branded) registered SWB foal will receive either a Premium B or AB rating. Diploma mares or mares with good performance records as sporthorses will be awarded a Premium AB rating.

Documentation of grading and show results of the mare and mare’s offspring must be provided at the inspection.

Premium A and Elite Status
Studbook mares may be upgraded to Premium A or Elite Status based upon the achievements of the mare and/or her offspring. The score is the sum of the points earned by the mare and by her offspring for their respective achievement levels. One level per horse (mare plus each of her offspring) is used for the point count.

Premium A Mares have borne a minimum of five foals. The combined score for the mare and her offspring must be at least 18 points (at least three of the mare’s offspring must reach the three-point level or higher).

Premium Elite Mares are Premium A mares that have borne a minimum of six foals. The combined score for the mare and her offspring must be at least 26 points (at least two of the mare’s offspring must reach the four-point level and a third must reach the five-point level or higher).
